The spigot mortar was loaded by 'breaking' the rear of the barral downwards allowing the projectile to be inserted from below. The usual two piece co-driver's hatch was plated over and a sliding hatch to allow access to the mortar. Note that the turrt would have to be rotated slighly to the left for this operation to be perfomed.
